Job Overview:

The Structural Design Vetting Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and compliance of designs related to oil and gas pipeline projects. As part of the PMC team, the engineer will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and approving structural designs prepared by contractors, ensuring alignment with industry standards, project specifications, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design Review and Validation:
    • Conduct detailed technical reviews of structural designs, drawings, and calculations submitted by EPC contractors.
    • Verify the adequacy of designs for onshore/offshore pipeline-related structures such as pipe supports, bridges, foundations, substations, equipment shelters, and crossings.
  2. Code Compliance:
    • Ensure all structural designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., ASME, AISC, API, BS, ISO).
    • Cross-check designs against client-specific guidelines and specifications.
  3. Structural Analysis:
    • Perform independent structural analysis as necessary to verify contractor submissions.
    • Evaluate load conditions, including static, dynamic, seismic, wind, and thermal loads.
  4. Coordination and Communication:
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, civil, and pipeline engineers to ensure seamless integration of structural designs.
    • Provide clear feedback to contractors regarding design deficiencies or required modifications.
  5. Site Support and Audits:
    • Assist in field inspections and audits to ensure design compliance during construction.
    • Address site-related structural challenges and provide timely resolutions.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain detailed records of design reviews, correspondence, and approval status.
    • Prepare and present reports summarizing findings, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
  7. Risk Management:
    • Identify and mitigate structural risks that could impact project execution, safety, or long-term performance.
    • Recommend best practices and innovative solutions to optimize structural reliability and cost-efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in structural engineering, with a focus on oil and gas pipeline projects.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD. Pro, SAP2000, ANSYS) and CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Tekla).
  • Knowledge Base:
    • Deep understanding of pipeline structural design principles, construction practices, and materials.
    • Familiarity with international codes and standards relevant to oil and gas infrastructure.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical discussions and report preparation.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical skills with a proactive approach to resolving technical challenges.
  • Certifications: Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in PMC or EPC projects.
  • Exposure to offshore pipeline structural design and marine engineering.
  • Understanding of geotechnical engineering aspects related to pipeline projects.
